North

Young Gerda sets off into the great unknown in search of her friend Kai, who has mysteriously vanished. On her journey, Gerda makes friends with people, birds, beasts, and a kind witch, unaware that a hostile, unseen enemy, the Snow Queen and her devil apprentice, Luiz, are watching her. The evil queen keeps Kai prisoner in her ice palace way up north in Finnmark, Norway. Together, Gerda and Kai escape from her clutches, arriving back home just in time for the happiest winter holiday ever.

North is a captivating family adventure inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. The film is produced by PictoryLand’s Haakon Gundersen (Flight of the Navigator, Free Jimmy) and directed by critically acclaimed fantasy author Bente Lohne, who also wrote the screenplay. Joining the project as consulting producer is Ralph Guggenheim, the producer of the Academy Award-winning “Toy Story” and co-founder of Pixar Animation. The talented team of animators, composers, and sound designers aims to bring the breathtaking beauty of Norwegian landscapes to life on the big screen, alongside a vision of the Snow Queen’s magical realm.

“North” will have its world premiere in November 2025 and will be released by Nordisk Film Distribution in the Nordic market.
